I have the above reel with the ‘D’ stamped inside. it is in very good condition with just some minor pitting on the metal.. can anyone advise how much it could be woth ?? thanks

I bought a unused spitfire finish silent check version with the “D” stamped inside. It is a masterpiece of reelmaking. I am always looking for more history on Walter Dingley. I have nearly every version and enjoy using one on occassion.
Although I like Hardy I believe he was the best England ever produced. The history is serious icing on the cake. I was also under the impression that Walter had a son named Earnst
who continued on the business until the mid 50’s. Ones that I suspect are his have the same design and machining, yet do not have the “D”
and are made with a sliding replaceable pawl and lighter spring with more teeth on the cog, The back of the body changed from the double rounded edge to an ogee shape. Same beautiful
proportioned pillars, impeccable precision,and marked with various shop names on the back.

I have seen many Silex reels with Dingleys big D inside them.

Keep looking and you should find one with a bit of luck.

How rare is it to find a Hardy silex stamped D for Dingley?
I have been looking for some years and not come across a single reel.
